sacrificing for them.

motherhood: the greatest and most difficult unpaid yet rewarding job.

an affirming nod, an amen or standing ovation to that statement would be acceptable. because it is. some days you wanna pull your hair out, book a one way ticket to the Fiji islands and some days you are filled with overwhelming joy to hear the word 'mom' come out from the little people you brought into the world.

and with being a mom there are choices that need to be made sacrificing your needs or desires for the best of your babies. although mine are not so much babies anymore, but still.

one of the choices i've had to recently make is refrain from climbing the corporate ladder and disliking the position that i currently have.
i know that sounds like i'm ungrateful, but i'm not. i'm super thankful for the job i have as it helps provide for my family, however, it's not the area where i would like to be. at this point in my career at my workplace, i saw myself in a different area. an area preferably where i would not need to discuss the same thing with a customer for the hundredth time.
unfortunately the positions that i would like to apply for require a late schedule where i would not be coming home until about 10:30 in the evening, and going full time. that just doesn't work for me. my family needs me. my kids need me.

i regret not staying home with my children when they were babies and toddlers. although they were always cared for by my mom and in good hands, i would've loved to wake up and spent every waking moment by their side watching them grow. financially that wasn't an option then.
now, i've been working part time for about a year now, and i love being able to pick them up from school, prepare them an after school snack and have time to get creative with it, help them with their homework, and enjoy them for longer than two rushed hours max before bedtime.
i always joke with my co-workers when i'm done for the day, that i am heading to my next job, not home. but work is not work when you love what you do. and even like i said, some days are chaotic and they test their limits times ten, i love having this option now and being with them before they are too grown to enjoy crafts with mom in the afternoon or a random movie date.

so while i have to listen to customers complain on a daily for a few hours, i am satisfied in knowing that this choice is a sacrifice well worth it. i'll take apple nachos over a corporate title any day.

what sacrifices have you had to make as a mother? i'd love to know!

Being a mother is ABSOLUTELY a huge sacrifice. The older I get, the more I realize how much my Mom has given to us. I am blown away and so thankful for how much she has provided for me, and can 100% say that I would NOT be where I am today without her.

Your kids are lucky to have you :)

working and being a mom has not been easy for me...I've actually decided to put in my 2 weeks notice soon. I'm in a corporate position that just requires too much from me. I don't know how we're going to manage financially, but i know we'll figure it out. I plan to get something very part time...this is an area that is such a struggle for most moms.

Well said, Leah! Your kids are blessed to have you spend so much time with them. (and to make those delicious-looking apple nachos!!) I am thankful that I have been able to stay home with my son, I know that it's not an option for many people. Being a mama is definitely often a thankless job, but it's (in my opinion) the most important one there is. Thanks for your words!! xo

"I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship."
Not just a sacrifice but what God considers holy and acceptable worship to Him...may you be blessed for it!

I love this. Thank you for posting. This is something I find myself struggling with (and we are just talking about kids), but I can already see it heading my way.
No doubt--they LOVE having you there to make those nachos, pick them up and love on them. :)
